About
Asiansploitation creates comedy with a slant. We are a collective of Asian-Canadian writers and performers that strive to examine, critique and re-imagine the society we live in through comedy. We seek to expose the human condition and laugh at it with our audiences. We seek to create work that is reflective of and accessible to a broad and diverse audience.
Over the past eight years, Asiansploitation has created 8 original revues plus a few remounts and have performed across the GTA garnering critical acclaim and developing a dedicated audience base. The Toronto Star describes our work as “comedy with strong cultural influences that also appeals to a broader audience.”
The troupe won Patron’s Pick from the 2010 Toronto Fringe Festival and also was chosen by Just for Laughs as the Best Comedy act in the festival. In addition to performing and conducting improvisation workshops, Asiansploitation conducts monthly Comedy Labs at the Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts and Culture, providing the public with an accessible venue to try out sketch comedy, improvisation and stand-up comedy.
