Calling all stem cell registrants!

Are you between the ages of 17-50?

In good working health?

Got some good ol’ Canadian health insurance?

And most of all, want to help out a Chinese blood cancer patient in need of a stem cell donor match?

Then come out to the OtherHalf 3rd annual national Chinese stem cell drive on Saturday, March 31st, 2012, from 11am-5pm. There are five convenient locations to choose from:

1. Dragon City Centre, downtown Toronto
2. Agincourt Mall, Scarborough
3. Splendid China Mall, Scarborough
4. First Markham Place, Markham
5. CCS-Mississauga, Mississauga

So you may be asking yourself, “Why should I bother to register with OtherHalf on Saturday? I could be watching The Hunger Games!”

Firstly, I cannot believe you haven’t seen the Hunger Games yet, the most AMAZING movie of the year!!! Ahem. But what is even more amazing is the hope that you could be giving one of the 32 Chinese-Canadian blood cancer patients in finding a life-saving match.

Chinese-Canadian blood cancer patients only have about a 20% chance of finding a donor match—that’s a devastatingly low stat. What makes the statistic so low is that Chinese registrants make up less than 3% of the world’s donor pool. And a patient’s best bet for finding a life-saving match is within their own ethnic group.

Donor registration only takes about 10 minutes—about the time it takes to stand in line at the concession stand on opening night—and it’s totally painless. (And free! Unlike that $35 dollar popcorn combo.) Just fill out a registration form, take 4 cheek swabs, and… that’s it.

Yup, that’s it.

With every registrant that signs up with OtherHalf on March 31st, we give each patient one more chance at hope. Hey, Katniss Everdeen may just be a fictional Hunger Games heroine, but by registering with the stem cell donor registry, you could have a chance to be a hero yourself and save someone’s life.
